The Ashwagandha plant is also called winter cherry, Indian ginseng or Withania somnifera and belongs to the nightshade family. The name comes from Sanskrit and translates to "smell of the horse" - the horse symbolically represents strength, energy and vitality in India. Traditionally, the root is used: It contains the characteristic withanolides, a group of over 300 secondary plant compounds, to which high-quality extracts such as KSM-66® are standardized. In Ayurvedic teachings, Ashwagandha is one of the so-called adaptogens.
