Rhodiola rosea – origin and history
Rhodiola rosea, also known as roseroot, is a plant from the family of the thick-leaved plants. It is widespread in Central and Northern Asia, from Mongolia to some regions of Siberia. In Europe, it is found in Iceland, the British Isles, parts of Scandinavia and the mountainous regions of the Balkans. The use of this plant has a long history, with ancient Chinese emperors sending envoys to Siberia to procure the coveted plant. While it used to be cultivated mainly for its fragrance, today the focus is on its valuable ingredients.
